Back in Cheese State

So finally made it back to Green Bay less than an hour ago. Made it home just in time to watch the 5th set of #1 Penn State vs #2 Texas NCAA Volleyball Championship. Unbelievable comeback by Penn State to win after losing the first 2 sets. Was also hoping to catch the Saints - Cowboys game but no NFL Network here. Maybe the NFL network should take some tips from the BigTen Network who set their ego aside and opened it up to a multitude of television companies, but oh well.
So left Michigan yesterday after noon after finishing up morning clinic. Got an unexpected Visa Gift card from faculty yesterday so that was a nice early Christmas present. Drive from Michigan to Chicago was pretty uneventful other than bad traffic once getting to Chicago. Listened to The Runaway Jury by John Grisham on CD - good "book" so far. Almost done with disk 5 of 6. Will have to finish the next couple of days. Spent the night with Jamie, Sarah, James, Julie, Ellyse, and Kippley in Chicago. Always interesting when the children and dogs out number the adults but everything went pretty well other than having to sleep in the same room as Iris which is always an interesting ordeal. James, Julia, and Ellie got to open gifts last night from Iris, Heatley, Karen and I. Karen and I are Ellie's godparents but have not been very good at getting her gifts, etc since we do not see them as much as we once did. Hopefully that will change once we move back to Wisconsin because we should have more time and they recently bought a house in Lake Geneva because Jamie works there occasionally. Was nice being able to catch up with them around keeping the children and dogs occupied and safe. Was able to sit down and watch some basketball and football today which is always a good thing. Jamie is happy that I am straying over to the darkside, as Karen would call it, and becoming more and more of a Michigan State fan. There is just a different aspect to things when you know some of the players on a personal level and see them so often. Do not get me wrong - I will always be a Badger at heart but MSU is definitely a close second these days.
Excited to be off for the next couple of weeks. As always will be interesting living the parents and in-laws. At least we are able to move from one to the other to give them breaks. Do get free baby sitters though which is always nice. Karen and I plan on attending some open houses tomorrow to get a small feel of the current housing market in the area. Karen has done some looking already but this is my first time home since early September and will likely by my last night home till about April for sure. Much of the work of looking at houses will fall on Karen with some input from our parents I am thinking and then I will swoop in at the end and help with the final decision. Meeting with our personal banker early this week to discuss mortgages given all of the changes that have occurred since we last bought a house. Should be a lot of fun looking at houses given that the difference in what we will be able to afford since our last house buying experience.
Karen will be working in Appleton the week of Christmas so Iris and I will be left to fend for ourselves. It will be fun being able to spend the majority of days with Iris since this will be a big difference of what normally occurs. I am sure Iris will enjoy given that she is slowly but surely becoming a daddy's girl. She even has a MSU Cheerleading outfit to Karen's distaste.

Will be in the Green Bay area up until New Years Eve when we will be heading back to Chicago. Till then I think Karen has ourselves doing something almost every day. She is planning something next week for me. I know this because she gets suspicious phone calls at times and in addition was very upset at the fact that MSU may have been playing in a bowl game at the end of December. As it turns out they are playing in the Alamo Bowl on Jan 2 vs Texas Tech. Flying out of Chicago into San Antonio by way of Dallas and returning on Jan 3. Karen will again be hanging out in Chicago with Jamie, Sarah, 4 children and 2 dogs.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.
